Cheap Vehicle Insurance, Are all drivers with valid drivers licenses able to drive a rent a car?
Question: The rent a car policy states that you have to add on each additional driver to be covered. I think if you let a friend drive the car after you rent it, that they are automatically insured even if their name was not added on when you rented it at the Hertz pick-up location. Hertz wants to charge an additional ten dollars per day per additional driver. I think that the additional driver is automatically covered. Am I right?
Answer: No sorry you are wrong. Make sure you fully read the copy of the rental agreement. If you rent and you claim that you will be the only driver you can not have anyone else drive the rental car. If you let someone else drive and there is a claim while that person is driving, not only will be be in violation of your rental contract but the claim will normally not be covered.
You may be thinking of permissive use that is often available under your own personal auto insurance policy. However, that dose not carry over to rental cars. If you have doubt then call your auto insurance carrier and ask them.
